Why Rashee Rice MUST Be Unleashed for Chiefs vs. Raiders Today
By Joe Summers
It's finally time, folks.
I've been waiting for the inevitable Rashee Rice monster game all season and today is the day. With a litany of injuries for Kansas City's skill position players and an offense searching for an identity, the Chiefs have no choice.
UNLEASH RASHEESH!
Why Rashee Rice MUST Be Unleashed for Chiefs vs. Raiders
Rashee Rice is producing at an elite level when given the opportunity, ranking second among ALL wide receivers in yards after catch per reception (8.1) with an average depth of target of five yards.
That gives Rice a receiving profile similar to a guy like Deebo Samuel, the 49ers' star who just signed a $71 million deal over three years.
Why does that matter today? Well, the Raiders' defensive tendencies play directly into Rice's hands. According to Pro Football Focus, Las Vegas runs zone coverage at a top-10 rate in the NFL (79.8%). 378 of Rice's 420 receiving yards have come against zone, and the lack of bodies in the wide receiver room means Rice should get plenty of snaps.
You can bet Rice will be involved in the red zone as well. He has 11 red zone targets this year, second on the Chiefs only to Travis Kelce (15).
If Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes want to fix this offense, the simplest solution is ready for take-off. Today is the day we'll remember as Rashee Rice's first true breakout game.
