Ranking the Chiefs' 8 Worst Draft Picks of the Last Decade
6. WR Mecole Hardman — 2019 Round 2, Pick 56
When Mecole Hardman was drafted 56th overall in 2019, a good portion of Chiefs fans thought he'd develop into Tyreek Hill 2.0. After all, Hardman possesses elite levels of speed that made it seem like he'd be the perfect weapon to pair with Mahomes' cannon of an arm.
At first, it looked like Hardman was going to live up to his draft potential. The former Georgia pass-catcher's receptions and receiving yards increased in each of his first three seasons. He was even named second-team All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl as a rookie due to his impact as a returner on special teams.
Unfortunately, Hardman hasn't done a whole lot over the last two years. An injury-plagued 2022 campaign held him to just 297 receiving yards through eight games and wound up missing the Super Bowl LVII victory. The Chiefs opted not to bring him back in the following offseason, resulting in his joining the New York Jets on a one-year deal.
After a disastrous start to the 2023 campaign with the Jets, Hardman was traded back to the Chiefs in October. He didn't generate much offense regardless of where he played, though, yielding 15 catches for 124 yards without a touchdown before posting a 5-62-1 stat line during the playoffs.
Even though Hardman caught the Chiefs' latest Super Bowl-winning touchdown, it's hard not to call his career somewhat disappointing. He's a solid contributor when he's on his game, but the issue is that his best performances have too big of a gap between them.
Hardman is currently a free agent at the time of writing, leaving time to tell if another team is willing to roll the dice on him.
