Patrick Mahomes spoke to local media after OTAs on Wednesday, publicly addressing the Rashee Rice situation for the first time.

Rice currently faces eight charges stemming from the March car crash in Dallas, Texas. He's likely to be suspended at some point, though he recently received great news regarding the allegation he punched a photographer.

This is the first time Mahomes has been made available to media since the incidents. See what he had to say below.

Patrick Mahomes Comments on Rashee Rice For First Time

Mahomes and Rice have been spotted working out together in Texas since the crash, so we know they've been in communication. Expectations are high for Rice's second season after he became the team's best wide receiver throughout his rookie campaign.

It's been a tumultuous offseason for Rice, though the Chiefs have the right leaders to get him back on track and focused. Andy Reid has a long history of addressing players with off-field issues, so Rice is not all that unique. Now that they're back in the building and preparing for a potential three-peat, I'm optimistic players will behave accordingly.

For now, Rice is still practicing in full. The NFL has said they'll let the legal process play out before serving a punishment, though it's not clear how long that will take. It's possible Rice isn't suspended until next season, but Kansas City would seemingly prefer to get the suspension out of the way.

The main situation you want to avoid is a suspension in the middle of the year. That seems like the least likely possibility, yet it's a concerning one nonetheless.

Having Rice at practice supported by his teammates is likely the best way to keep him focused, so I'm glad to see Mahomes speaking like a leader here.
