NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made his first public comments regarding Rashee Rice's ongoing legal situation during the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday evening.

It's expected that Rice will face some sort of suspension to begin the new season and the Chiefs have already started planning for that possibility, trading up for electric Texas WR Xavier Worthy as the first round neared its conclusion.

Goodell stopped short of making any grand declarations regarding Kansas City's 2023 second-round pick, but did say the league was letting the legal process play out before getting involved.

Roger Goodell Finally Comments on Rashee Rice Legal Dilemma

"We obviously are following it closely," explained Goodell to ESPN's Mike Greenberg. "As soon as they’re done with the (legal) process, we will be engaged and be prepared to look at that under all of our personal contact policies."

This type of response is about all that Chiefs fans could expect. It's similar to the one Andy Reid gave, as Rice certainly does still factor into the organization's long-term plans. Any suspension he receives won't keep him out for the entire season, so he'll return at some point as Kansas City tries to win a third consecutive Super Bowl.

The Chiefs' offense figures to be one of the NFL's deadliest as soon as Rice returns. Between Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, and Travis Kelce, Kansas CIty's pass-catching group quickly went from a weakness to a strength this offense.

With Patrick Mahomes throwing passes, Reid calling plays and Isiah Pacheco running the rock behind one of the league's best offensive lines, this offense should terrify the rest of the AFC.

We'll see who the Chiefs add to the roster throughout the rest of the NFL Draft, though fans have to be happy no matter how long of a suspension Rice ultimately serves.
