Kadarius Toney's tenure with the Chiefs could aptly be described as a rollercoaster, and his latest injury could spell doom for his chances of making the roster.

He suffered an ankle injury during Wednesday's practice and was seen without a helmet on Thursday. While his ailment isn't expected to sideline him for a significant stretch, it hardly helps Toney's reputation as injury-prone.

Kansas City's wide receiver room is crowded and Toney is among a handful of players vying for one or two spots. If he's on the sidelines, it obviously hurts his chances to win the battle.

Kadarius Toney's Latest Injury Hurts Chances to Make Chiefs Roster

The organization's words and actions would suggest Toney is still part of the Chiefs' plans. Brett Veach called him the team's most talented receiver and the coaching staff has been utilizing him as a running back this summer in addition to his role as a wideout and on special teams.

Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown, Justin Watson, and Mecole Hardman are assumed to be locked in. That leaves one or two spots for Toney, Skyy Moore, and surging second-year player Nikko Remigio.

Andy Reid praised Moore this week, though he looks like the odd man out at this point. Remigio shined throughout the summer and is running as the top kick returner at camp. Barring a change there, he's got a strong case for a roster spot.

It'd be surprising to see the Chiefs give up on a high draft pick like Moore after only two seasons, though it was trending that way. Toney's injury could complicate matters but it's worth remembering that Moore was placed on the injured reserve list in 2023 himself.

Both players come with concerns. If Toney gets back on the field quickly, he's seemingly in the lead for the final receiver spot. This ankle issue opens the door though, and it'll be an interesting battle to watch play out in the coming weeks.
