Second-Year WR Taking Advantage of Kadarius Toney's Absence at Chiefs OTAs
By Joe Summers
Second-year WR Nikko Remigio was a big winner during Chiefs OTAs, taking full advantage of Kadarius Toney's absence and Xavier Worthy's injury to push for a roster spot, building rapport with Patrick Mahomes along the way.
The 2023 undrafted wideout from Fresno State drew praise from Matt Nagy and really stood out during the media portion of OTAs this week. Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride noted that Remigio caught eight passes during scrimmage work.
He still faces an uphill battle to make the roster but it's a great sign for Remigio's prospects nonetheless.
Second-Year WR Nikko Remigio Shined at OTAs
Players like Skyy Moore and Toney are still ahead of Remigio on the depth chart, though he could be the next man up if anyone suffers an injury or the team decides to move on from Toney.
Remigio is making fans out of his quarterbacks too. Backup QB Carson Wentz told reporters "he runs all day, I can tell you that...He looks really good out there. He's fast, he uncovers well versus man coverage and, like I said, he can run all day long."
He was a skilled return man in college so he's got special teams value as well. With the new kickoff rules, perhaps Remigio could carve out a role for Dave Toub. If the Chiefs do ultimately cut him, other teams around the league should be taking notice of the talented receiver.
Kansas City holds mandatory minicamp June 11-13, while activities up until now were optional. If Remigio continues shining, the Chiefs may have to think long and hard about keeping him on the 53-man roster after the summer.
