Important Chief Admits He’s Not 100% After First Camp Session
By Joe Summers
One crucial Chiefs player is admittedly not 100% with training camp officially starting this week. Rookie WR Xavier Worthy practiced in full with the rookies on Wednesday but suffered a hand injury and told reporters that he's not completely healthy.
Considering he missed minicamp as a precaution with a hamstring issue, Worthy's health is obviously something to monitor as the season approaches.
Worthy was adamant that he would play if there was a game this week. He never missed a game in college due to injury, though his slight stature understandably has Chiefs Kingdom a bit worried.
Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy Admits He's Not 100% Healthy
It's imperative that Worthy gets off to a quick start with the organization. He caught 12 TDs during his true freshman season at Texas, and the Chiefs open the season with difficult contests against the Ravens, Bengals, Falcons, and Chargers.
Thus, Kansas City truly needs the best version of Worthy as quickly as possible. A 4-0 start would give the Chiefs control of the AFC with tiebreakers over two contenders for the conference's top seed, and Worthy adds a unique speed element that'll be difficult for teams to prepare for.
Andy Reid and the coaching staff expect Worthy to be a full participant throughout training camp, and he notably made a diving catch after missing a few plays with the hand issue. He's got the talent to be a true difference-maker immediately both offensively and on special teams, though the team has to be careful about the potential wear and tear on his body.
The Chiefs are dealing with several notable injuries as camp begins. This is a special year with a legitimate chance to earn a historic three-peat. Kansas City needs Worthy to ramp up to 100% to maximize their chances, so his health will be closely monitored throughout camp.
