The rookie portion of Chiefs training camp is officially underway with the team reporting over the next couple of days and several players are already dealing with injuries.

WR Xavier Worthy's injury status is an important storyline to watch, though five other players were officially placed on the injured list on Wednesday.

While these players were expected to start training camp on the sidelines, there are a couple of notable names to monitor over the next few weeks.

Chiefs News: 5 Players Officially Placed on Injured List

B.J. Thompson is still recovering from his scary cardiac arrest incident earlier this summer, so his inclusion on the list was expected.

Charles Omenihu's status is no surprise either, given he's still working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered in the AFC Championship win over the Ravens. The other three players, however, are worth a second look.

Derrick Nnadi, Joe Thuney, and Jaylen Watson are all players the Chiefs hope to get back on the field sooner rather than later. Nnadi plays a critical role in the middle of the defensive line, while Thuney is the team's most accomplished offensive lineman and Jaylen Watson will presumably step into a larger role with L'Jarius Sneed gone.

If these injuries force any of those three players to miss significant time, the Chiefs could be short-handed with a difficult first few weeks on the schedule. There's plenty of time between now and the start of the season, though Kansas City obviously wants to be as healthy as possible to maximize the chances at securing a three-peat.

The team's first official training camp practice is Sunday, July 21. While these players won't be on the field, my fingers are crossed that these injuries won't be a lingering concern.
