Chiefs Take Long-Awaited Step With Xavier Worthy
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs and first-round WR Xavier Worthy took a major step on Wednesday as the organization officially agreed to a rookie contract with the former Texas Longhorn star.
Worthy was one of the few Chiefs from this rookie class without a deal and he's now free to fully focus on the remainder of OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
Given the outsized expectations placed on Worthy by the coaching staff and sportsbooks, this is an excellent sign that he'll now be able to focus on having the most productive rookie season possible with the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.

The young wideout is dealing with an injury though the franchise doesn't expect it to be an issue moving forward. He'll give the Chiefs several receivers on team-friendly deals and Patrick Mahomes appears to have the best supporting cast he's played with over the last couple of seasons.
Worthy made an immediate impact at Texas as a freshman, catching 62 passes for 981 yards and 12 TDs. Kansas City hopes he can have similarly impressive production in his rookie campaign, especially if Rashee Rice is ultimately suspended.
Travis Kelce leads this pass-catching group, though the Chiefs have a lot of unfamiliar faces otherwise. Hollywood Brown and Worthy are both entering their first years in the system, increasing the importance of creating comfort early.
Kansas City squares off with the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 before taking on the Cincinnati Bengals, so being on the same page will be critical. Based on this news, both the Chiefs and Worthy can now focus on what truly matters.
