The Chiefs are playing a game of musical chairs with CB Eric Scott Jr., bringing him back to the practice squad just days after quickly releasing him. He was signed, released, then signed again and now presumably will stick with a Week 1 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on the horizon.

Originally from Basehor, Kansas, Scott was a local high school star who then shined at Southern Miss before being picked in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

He's yet to appear in an NFL game, though his stellar work in the preseason caught the Chiefs' attention and made him a priority target.

The move comes in conjunction with the promotion of DT Marlon Tuipulotu to the active roster while RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. Edwards-Helaire will miss the first four games of the season at minimum, giving both Tuipulotu and Scott opportunities to shine during September.

During the preseason with the Cowboys, Scott had six tackles, two deflected passes and an interception. He earned a reputation as a ball-hawk at Southern Miss, notching four interceptions and two fumble recoveries during his three-year career.

While it's a touch surprising to see a player signed and cut repeatedly in such a short time, Scott has to be happy about the opportunity to earn a role with Kansas City. At six-foot-two and over 200 pounds, he fits the mold of the type of cornerbacks Brett Veach and Steve Spagnuolo typically target.

We'll see if he can make the most of his chance, but Scott's been given new hope after it looked like the Chiefs ripped it away from him.
