Chiefs Kick Local Standout to Curb Immediately After Signing Him
By Joe Summers
Just a few days after claiming him off the waiver wire, the Kansas City Chiefs released local standout CB Eric Scott Jr. to help clear space following a series of acquisitions.
A former star at Basehor-Linwood High School, Scott was a sixth-round selection by the Cowboys in the 2023 NFL Draft. He's yet to appear in an NFL game but enjoyed an excellent college career at Southern Miss after his days dominating the Kansas high school ranks.
The Chiefs added RB Samaje Perine to the active roster this week, creating a need to release someone like Scott. Given his pedigree, it's likely he'll catch on with someone's practice squad if not the 53-man group.
Chiefs Release CB Eric Scott Right After Signing Him
Coincidentally, Kansas City traded Dallas the 2023 sixth-round pick that became Scott in exchange for the 2024 fifth-rounder that landed Penn State C Hunter Nourzad. How did the Chiefs originally get that extra 2023 pick?
From the Tyreek Hill trade. It seems every decision Kansas City makes has some kind of tie to that shrewd deal. While that's hyperbolic, it's humorous that even Scott's hometown story related to Hill in a small way.
Scott was impressive in the preseason for the Cowboys, allowing just a 53.2 passer rating when targeted while notching an interception to boot. He had nine interceptions during high school along with 126 tackles in 33 games, so he's got a knack for generating turnovers.
One thing is clear about the Chiefs' strategy from Scott's three-day stint with the organization: Brett Veach will leave no stone unturned in trying to improve this franchise, even if it creates some extra paperwork.
