The Chiefs reportedly expect Rashee Rice to be suspended for at least half of the regular season, according to NFL.com's James Palmer.

Appearing on Steve Smith's Agent 89 Breakdown Show, Palmer said emphatically that not only will Rice be suspended, but Kansas City believes it'll be that significant. Palmer is considered well-sourced, though this report sounds much more severe than the one ESPN's Adam Schefter gave recently.

Schefter reported that Rice would face a multi-game suspension, and half the season is definitely multiple games. That being said, this is the first report indicating the 2023 second-round pick could miss eight or more games.

There is a long way to go in this process. Both Roger Goodell and Clark Hunt have indicated they're letting the legal process play out before handing out respective punishments, but it sounds like the NFL is already making plans for a potential suspension.

Willie Gay Jr. was suspended four games in 2022 and Justyn Ross six last year, though this would be the most significant Chiefs suspension in recent memory.

Kansas City reshaped its wide receiver group this offseason, signing Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown to a one-year deal while drafting Texas speedster Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The Worthy pick, in particular, could have been influenced by the idea of a Rice suspension, but no concrete evidence supports that as of now.

Rice emerged as the Chiefs' best wide receiver last year, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven TDs. Losing him for half of the season would be a massive blow as Kansas City tries to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls.

We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available regarding Rice's possible suspension.
