It's been three months since Jackson County residents voted against a 3/8-cent sales tax that would've helped renovate GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. With the Kansas City Chiefs' lease set to expire following the 2030 NFL season, nobody knows where the defending Super Bowl Champions will play in 2031.

While Chiefs fans would love to keep the team in town, other locations have emerged as potential relocation destinations if a deal can't be reached. The state of Kansas has been doing what it can to lure both the Chiefs and Royals while San Antonio, TX has popped up as another possibility.

With the fanbase hoping for answers soon, Chiefs president Mark Donovan has just shed some new light on the situation.

Chiefs Hope to Reach Relocation Decision in 6 Months

After Friday's training camp practice, Donovan spoke to reporters about the Chiefs' outlook in Kansas City. While the Super Bowl-winning executive didn't have any concrete updates, he did reveal that the franchise has "options" and that the hope is for a decision to materialize within the next six months, per Kansas City Star's Sam McDowell.

KSHB's David Medina added Donovan believes the situation depends on two different timelines. Whether the Chiefs plan to simply renovate Arrowhead Stadium or build a new facility entirely could impact the length of the process.

"If you're renovating Arrowhead, you're looking at an existing structure, so it's a little bit smaller lead time you need there. If you're building something new, either in Missouri or Kansas, it extends that lead time by about a year and a half."

Former Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has been open about wanting to keep the Chiefs in Kansas City, but his term ending earlier this year potentially threw a wrench into those plans. The state's primary election takes place in August, which could further shed more light on the Chiefs' future.

"Until they have an idea where they stand with who is going to be the presumptive governor, they really can't go too far. But I will say that we are in some pretty significant conversations with leadership on the Missouri side."

And even though the Chiefs have been adamant about staying at Arrowhead in the past, that might not be the case anymore. Donovan admitted that the failed renovation vote made the franchise rethink their approach and that they want to do whatever's best for the people who matter the most, the fans.

Hopefully, it isn't much longer before we have a concrete about on the Chiefs' future. The franchise has been a massive part of the town's history since relocating to Kansas City in ahead of the 1963 AFL season and the prestige has only increased with four Super Bowl victories since 1969.

But regardless of where the Chiefs play in 2031 and beyond, their immediate future is promising. Patrick Mahomes & Co. are currently tied with the San Francisco 49ers for the best Super Bowl LIX odds (+600) on FanDuel Sportsbook as training camp kicks into full gear.
