For any Chiefs fan thinking wishfully about a potential Davante Adams trade to land the All-Pro WR in Kansas City, you can officially put those dreams to bed.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the Chiefs are "not expected to be an option" for the disgruntled star, who requested a trade from the Raiders on Tuesday after some bizarre social media hijinks by head coach Antonio Pierce.

It never truly made sense for Kansas City to poach Adams from a rival, though it was still fun to think about for a brief moment.

Chiefs Not an Option for All-Pro WR Davante Adams via Trade

Adams prefers to team up with one of the QBs he's played with before, so Aaron Rodgers of the Jets and Derek Carr of the Saints are reportedly his preferred options. Las Vegas was always highly unlikely to hand a player of his caliber to a rival on a silver platter, but he could make New York a threat theoretically.

Kansas City has plenty of options across the league, though shouldn't make a move until after the bye in Week 6. In a few more weeks, we'll have a better idea of what teams are out of playoff contention. If the Browns and Panthers keep losing, Amari Cooper, Diontae Johnson, and Adam Thielen all become more likely targets.

Aside from the rivalry implications, Adams' contract made it almost impossible for him to land with the Chiefs anyway. Kansas City has less than $5 million in cap space and needs to be careful, making someone like Cooper with a $1.2 million base salary a more likely option.

Expect more speculation as we draw closer to the early November trade deadline. One thing seems certain though: Adams will soon be playing for another franchise, just not the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.
