Chief on Roster Bubble Already Struggling at Training Camp
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs' wide receiver room is a major storyline at training camp, with up to 10 players vying for six or seven spots. One player on the bubble, Skyy Moore, is already struggling and seems behind some of his teammates per early reports.
Moore has plenty of time to turn things around. That being said, he's got a short leash after a pair of disappointing seasons in which he compiled just 494 total receiving yards. Kadarius Toney's versatility is garnering attention, while fan-favorite Nikko Remigio has impressed as well.
If those two outplay Moore during camp, will that leave the 2022 second-round pick on the chopping block?
Skyy Moore Already Struggling at Training Camp
Kansas City has greater draft capital invested in Moore than Toney or Remigio but as we saw when Isiah Pacheco overtook Clyde Edwards-Helaire, that doesn't mean much once you're actually with the organization.
Brett Veach and Andy Reid still speak highly of Toney, sharing praise we've not seen extended to Moore. At this point, it appears Moore is behind his peers.
Forming trust with Patrick Mahomes matters as well and that's an area Moore has yet to accomplish much in. He caught a TD in the Super Bowl win over the Eagles but that was much more about the scheme of the play than anything Moore did in particular.
We don't yet know if the Chiefs will keep six or seven receivers, obviously an important detail. but Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, and Mecole Hardman all feel like locks. That leaves one or two spots for Moore, Toney, and Remigio, to say nothing of Justyn Ross or Montrell Washington.
With each passing day, it's feeling likelier that Moore could be cut just two years into his career. The best case scenario is that he turns things around and makes this is a very difficult decision, though it's clear he's got work to do.
