Best Bets for Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in Chiefs vs. Dolphins Week 9
By Joe Summers
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce both had poor games by their standards in Week 8.
The Chiefs' offense was held without a touchdown and Kelce publicly declared his frustration. Now that the team is focused on Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs' stars should bounce-back against a Dolphins defense that's struggled to contain the pass.
Let's look at my best bets for Mahomes and Kelce this Sunday vs. Miami below, though first be sure to sign up for DraftKings Sportsbook's INSTANT $200 bonus! Bet $5 or any Chiefs wager and you'll get $200 in bonus bets instantly! Sign up now, then let's get into my favorite bets.
Best Bets for Patrick Mahomes in Week 9
1. Mahomes OVER 285.5 Passing Yards (-115)
Mahomes fell short of his passing prop last week, but the Dolphins represent an ideal matchup to get back on track.
Miami ranks 19th in opponent yards per pass attempt (6.6), though that mark is significantly worse on the road. When the Dolphins aren't at home, they allow 7.4 yards per attempt, which would third-worst in the NFL overall.
The betting favorite to win NFL MVP battled through the flu last week, but all indications are that he's healthy now. Mahomes averaged 337 passing yards per game in the three weeks prior to the Broncos loss, so he's finding success despite the ongoing wide receiver issues.
Josh Allen torched the Dolphins' secondary for 320 passing yards and I expect similar output from Mahomes on Sunday.
2. Mahomes OVER 22.5 Rushing Yards (-120)
While Mahomes has always been elite with his arm, he's unlocked a rushing ability this season that's given bettors value and helped the Chiefs keep defenses guessing.
Mahomes has at least 28 rushing yards in six of Kansas City's eight games, averaging just under 30 per game on 6.5 yards per attempt. Miami averages the fifth most sacks per game (3.4), so the defense has a fierce pass rush that will force Mahomes to scramble and pick up easy yards.
He tends to use his legs more against tougher defenses. Mahomes rushed for 51 yards against the Jets and 45 in Week 1 vs. the Lions, for example, and he gained 44 yards on the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
This is a massive game for playoff seeding. A win would give the Chiefs the tie-breaker over the Jags AND the Dolphins, the other two teams tied atop the AFC.
In a game of this magnitude, Mahomes won't hesitate to run the ball and should clear this prop with ease.
I expect a big performance from Mahomes' partner-in-crime too, as you'll see on the next page.
