Another Chiefs WR Suffers Injury Scare at Training Camp
By Joe Summers
Another Chiefs WR suffered an injury during the fourth day of training camp on Wednesday as Justin Watson went to the injury tent with an apparent lower leg issue.
Watson joins first-round rookie Xavier Worthy as a valuable receiver who's been hurt early in camp, throwing a wrench into an already-complicated picture for one of the most competitive position battles on the roster.
If Watson is forced to miss any time, it gives more opportunities to guys like Nikko Remigio to push to advance from the practice squad.
Chiefs News: WR Justin Watson Suffers Injury at Training Camp
The veteran enters his seventh year and reportedly left the field on a cart, painting a discouraging picture for his status with practice heating up.
In two years with the Chiefs, Watson emerged as one of Patrick Mahomes' most trusted receivers, especially on third down. He has 42 catches for 775 yards and five TDs with Kansas City and should be viewed as a lock to make this roster, provided the injury doesn't wind up becoming something serious.
After last year's receiver group led the NFL in drops (44), all eyes are on the various receivers at this training camp. Xavier Worthy looked excellent before he got hurt, though Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice are both as good as advertised. Kadarius Toney is getting work at running back on top of catching passes, then you've got a conglomerate of other players vying for positioning.
There's a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the group and Watson's injury doesn't help matters. We'll keep you updated as the story develops, though our fingers are crossed the issue nothing that'll keep him out for an extended time.
