Andy Reid Reveals Trade Approach as Chiefs Consider Big WR Deal
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs are at a crossroads while waiting to hear the severity of star WR Rashee Rice's major injury, and it sounds like a trade could be in the works over the coming weeks.
Names like Diontae Johnson and Amari Cooper are being floated, but numerous options could be good fits for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions. Speaking to the media on Monday, head coach Andy Reid discussed his philosophy for making trades ahead of the November 4 deadline.
In just the last two years, Kansas City traded for Kadarius Toney and Mecole Hardman. Could another move be on the way?
Andy Reid Reveals Trade Strategy Amid WR Rumors
"It would depend on who the guy is. I mean, that’s the obvious. If he’s got experience in the offense, and it’s not too bad," Reid said when asked about his mindset.
"It takes somebody a little bit of time to get himself involved and get the terminology down, but it’s a lot easier now than it is during training camp," he added. "They have to learn a kazillion plays here they just have the game week to learn and getting on the same page with the quarterback and the timing and all that. That’s a bigger issue normally."
In that sense, reuniting with someone like Marquez Valdes-Scantling or Kadarius Toney might be appealing to Reid since they've spent time with the organization already. Practice squad players like Justyn Ross, Nikko Remigio, and Montrell Washington are more likely options.
At the very least, the Chiefs won't be scared to make a move. Opportunities to get a three-peat are extremely rare, so Veach and Reid will work hard to ensure they leave no stone left unturned.
We'll see what happens in the coming weeks but expect the team to be active pending the results of additional testing on Rice's knee.
