The Chiefs have to consider all options at wide receiver after the devastating and seemingly major injury that Rashee Rice suffered in the first quarter against the Chargers on Sunday.
Several potential trade targets have been floated, but Panthers WR Diontae Johnson could represent the best long-term option for Kansas City. Adam Schefter of ESPN appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, specifically looking to Johnson as someone who could be moved.
Considering Johnson's ability as a separator and contract status, he's certainly a player Brett Veach should inquire about.

"[Diontae Johnson] is gonna be leaving Carolina after this year anyway.""

"Johnson's in the last year of his contract, he's going to be leaving Carolina after this year anyway," Schefter said. "If they lose a few more games, why would you not be open to the idea of moving him if you got the right offer before the deadline?"
Despite Johnson's clear ability, he's been hamstrung by terrible QB play for most of his career. The 2019 third-round pick joined the Steelers at the end of Ben Roethlisberger's time in Pittsburgh, and he hasn't been part of a truly great offense yet. However, his talent is obvious and he could see a resurgence with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

Johnson was a Second-Team All-Pro in his rookie season as a punt returner, so he could potentially contribute on special teams as well. When given the opportunity, he's shined. No team could give him a better opportunity than the Chiefs right now.
During the last two weeks with Andy Dalton, Johnson has 15 catches for 205 yards and two TDs. He could easily take over as Mahomes' top option, freeing Xavier Worthy and Travis Kelce up as well.
It's unclear what kind of trade compensation would be required to get him, but Brett Veach should at least make the call to find out. If things go well, Johnson could wind up in Kansas City for a long time.
