Chiefs' Defensive Lineman in Stable Condition After Seizure During OTAs
By Joe Summers
The Kansas City Chiefs postponed practice on Thursday after second-year defensive lineman BJ Thompson was reportedly taken to a local hospital following a seizure.
Thompson went into cardiac arrest during a team meeting but is in stable condition. The Chiefs will resume OTAs (offseason team activities) on Friday according to reports from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Kansas City's medical staff was attentive and worked quickly, helping Thompson during the worrisome event.
Chiefs Postpone Practice Following BJ Thompson Medical Event
Originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of SF Austin, Thompson appeared in one game with the Chiefs this year, compiling a pair of tackles in the Week 18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Thompson is expected to compete for a backup role this season one of the NFL's most formidable defensive lines. He's shown an ability to play on special teams as well, hoping to make a larger impact during his second year.
While we know he's currently stable, little is known about Thompson's condition or the cause of the medical event otherwise. The Chiefs are in the final portion of their optional OTAs before moving to mandatory minicamp June 11-13.
This is a developing story and we'll keep you updated when more information becomes available on Thompson's status.
