3 Free Agent RBs the Chiefs Could Still Sign
By Joe Summers
3. Jerick McKinnon
I don't know if Jerick McKinnon has anything left in the tank after suffering through injuries last season. However, at a time in which Brett Veach has prioritized bringing a lot of players back, I don't mind re-signing McKinnon to most lie low until the playoffs.
If Mecole Hardman doesn't come back, Skyy Moore would be the most experienced wide receiver in this offense and he's only played for two years. McKinnon has three years with the team and is a proven, reliable target for Patrick Mahomes. He even made a critical catch late in the Super Bowl, so we know he's earned the trust of those around him.
He's 32 years old, but there's no denying the impact he can have on the team.
McKinnon has 16 TDs with the Chiefs and earned the chance to compete for a third straight Super Bowl. Especially with the uncertainty surrounding Rashee Rice, I'd like to see familiar faces back catching passes. This is too important of a season to risk things, and McKinnon wouldn't cost much to come back.
If it were up to me, I'd re-sign McKinnon and Hardman both just for the continuity. There have been no reports of any conversations between either player and the Chiefs, and undrafted rookie Emani Bailey profiles in a similar role to McKinnon. They're different players, but you could use them similarly.
It's possible the Chiefs don't have room for McKinnon. Either way, they do have options if they decide to add a running back in free agency.
