It's been three months since the Kansas City Chiefs' harrowing Super Bowl 59 defeat, and the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles is still as fresh as it was in February. The Chiefs' performance in the rivalry's latest chapter was nothing short of embarrassing, leaving Kansas City fans hoping for a better effort whenever the next showdown occurs.
With the AFC West and NFC East colliding in 2025, the Chiefs already know they'll be hosting the Eagles at some point next season, opening the door for some revenge. Fast forward to Wednesday, and the Kansas City fanbase officially knows when the highly anticipated rematch will occur.
Chiefs to Host Eagles for Super Bowl Rematch in Week 2
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane is reporting that the Super Bowl 59 rematch will be happening only seven months after the Chiefs and Eagles went to battle in New Orleans.
"Eagles and Chiefs will face off in a rematch of Super Bowl LIX in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL season at Kansas City on Sunday, Sept. 14, according to NFL sources," McLane wrote on Wednesday morning. NFL insider Jordan Schutlz later added that the game will be played at 4:25 p.m. ET.
Although an early-season matchup against the defending Super Bowl Champions might intimidate some times, Andy Reid's squad will relish the challenge. After all, a Week 2 showdown with the Eagles will give the Chiefs a great chance to re-establish themselves as the team to beat before the season kicks into full gear.
Recent Chiefs-Eagles history has slightly favored the former, with Kansas City winning four of its last encounters with Philadelphia since the 2013 NFL season. Having said that, that pair of losses came in the Chiefs' latest two meetings with the Eagles, further highlighting the importance of a Week 2 victory.
It'll also be interesting to see how the Arrowhead Stadium crowd will factor into the Super Bowl rematch. As important as home-field advantage is, the Chiefs are only 1-3 in their last four home games against the Eagles, most recently falling 21-17 in Week 11 of the 2023 season.
It's been a busy offseason so far, and the retooled Chiefs have more than enough talent to give the Eagles (and the other top NFL teams) a run for their money in 2025. In fact, Kansas City currently holds the fourth-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+800) on FanDuel Sportsbook as the middle of May arrives.
