The Kansas City Chiefs have made several roster moves over the last few weeks as they prepare for another deep postseason run.
Kansas City recently brought back veteran cornerback Steven Nelson, who had reportedly retired from the NFL this summer. Nelson spent the first four years of his career in Kansas City after the ball club took him in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
The addition of Nelson is happening at the perfect time as Kansas City has received inconsistent play from the CB2 spot.
However, with only a few games left in the regular season, Chiefs fans shouldn’t get their hopes up to see Nelson anytime soon.
Chiefs News: Steven Nelson Not Ready To Make 2024 Debut
According to Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Tuesday that the 31-year-old Nelson will probably need some more time.
#Chiefs HC Andy Reid says that Steven Nelson will probably need some more time. Says that Hollywood Brown feels good and has healed well. Mentions they released Clyde Edwards-Helaire to help free space to juggle some of the injuries they're dealing with right now.

It’s not surprising Reid and KC’s coaching staff are taking a slow approach with Nelson, who last played in an NFL game in January with the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round.
Heading into last week’s game against the Cleveland Browns, Reid was asked about Nelson’s availability and he said that the veteran defensive back would not play. The next day, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo gave a concerning report on Nelson, stating that it would take a while for him to figure it out.
With only three games left in the regular season, the Chiefs' secondary isn’t in dire straits, despite the latest injury to Chamarri Conner, who suffered a concussion against the Browns.
However, if Kansas City has plans to use Nelson in the postseason, they need to get him on the field soon to see if he’s ready to contribute. Spagnuolo's system isn't easy to pick up, but Nelson will only improve with live-game reps.
