Josh Allen Admits Sad Truth 1 Week After Loss to Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are just days away from potentially making history at Super Bowl 59. No team in NFL history has ever won three consecutive Lombardi Trophies, however, that could change when Andy Reid & Co. collide with Nick Sirianni's Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans on Sunday.
Even though it's been over a week since the Chiefs last played, their third straight AFC Championship victory is still fresh on a lot of people's minds. That includes the Buffalo Bills, who the Chiefs eliminated from the playoffs for the fourth time since 2021.
Those postseason losses were bound to eventually reach a breaking point. That time might be the present based on Bills quarterback Josh Allen's latest comments following his team's playoff elimination.
Chiefs News: Bills QB Josh Allen Reacts to AFC Championship Loss
On Sunday, Allen sat down with Associated Press' Rob Maaddi and discussed the Bills' playoff loss to the Chiefs. The three-time Pro Bowl signal-caller revealed that he still hasn't gotten over the loss, to the point where it's even haunting his dreams.
"It sucks. Just sitting here thinking about everything that you could’ve done differently," Allen said. "I’m having dreams about certain plays that I wish I could have back. There’s no easy way about it."
Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today, but it was clear the Chiefs had his number during their latest playoff encounter. Although he threw for 237 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns, the Bills QB couldn't get anything going on the ground as Kansas City limited him to 39 rushing yards on 11 carries while forcing him to fumble the ball three times.
Although Allen didn't specify which plays he regrets, two fourth-quarter plays stand out. The first came when the former Wyoming signal-caller was stuffed on a fourth-and-one QB sneak to begin the final frame, resulting in the Chiefs scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion on the following drive.
Another potential regret may stem from when Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid failed to haul in a catchable ball at the end of the fourth quarter, resulting in a turnover on downs. While some fans have voiced their displeasure toward the pass-catcher, Allen has made it clear he blames himself for the blunder.
"I got to be better for (Kincaid)," Allen told ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg on Jan. 27."I didn't feel like I put him in enough good situations this year, ball-placement-wise."
Losing against the same team year after year must be tiring, so it's understandable if some people feel sorry for Allen. At the same time, the Chiefs' continued dominance over the Bills highlights just how much better the defending Super Bowl Champions are compared to even the best teams the AFC has to offer.
If Allen wants to forget about Kansas City's domination, he probably shouldn't tune into Sunday's action. After all, FanDuel Sportsbook is currently listing the Chiefs as 1.5-point favorites over the Eagles in the Super Bowl.
