The Kansas City Chiefs have had plenty of time to soak in and reflect on the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now that the three-peat-crushing defeat is firmly in the rearview, Chiefs fans can focus on the upcoming NFL offseason — including what some former Kansas City players are up to.

With free agency not beginning until next month, some former Chiefs must wait to find out where they're heading this offseason. Having said that, one of the franchise's recently failed signings just shed some light on what his NFL future holds.

Chiefs News: Jaguars Sign Louis Rees-Zammit to Active Roster

On Monday, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars have added wideout Louis Rees-Zammit to their active roster. The former rugby star spent the majority of the 2024 campaign on the Jaguars' practice squad and will have the chance to compete for a 53-man roster job this summer.

After a successful rugby career, Rees-Zammit made his way to the NFL last year as a part of the league's International Player Pathway Program. Teams were hoping that his rugby skills could translate to NFL success — especially with the new kickoff rules coming into effect.

The Chiefs saw enough of Rees-Zammit's pro day to offer him a contract last March. He ended up seeing time as a runner and receiver during the 2024 preseason, turning six carries into 22 rushing yards while adding a three-yard reception on two targets. That's without mentioning his respectable average of 31.5 return yards on a pair of kick returns.

Despite displaying some potential, Rees-Zammit failed to impress Andy Reid & Co. and was cut at the end of the preseason. The Welsh dual-threat found himself joining the Jaguars one day later, however, that opportunity didn't amount to much outside of a brief conversation with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell during the team's trip to London.

Now that he's spent nearly a full year in the league, it's up to Rees-Zammit to prove he belongs. The Jaguars likely offer the 24-year-old his best shot at NFL success because of their weak roster and the fact that new head coach Liam Coen might be willing to experiment with Rees-Zammit in ways that the previous regime didn't.

If he successfully cracks the Jaguars' roster, Chiefs fans won't have to wait long to see Rees-Zammit again. The NFL has already confirmed that Kansas City and Jacksonville will be colliding at EverBank Stadium in 2025, however, the official date has yet to be revealed.

Hopefully, Rees-Zammit capitalizes on his next opportunity. He has the tools to be one of the funnest players to watch, and it'll be up to him to put everything together to reach that status.
