They'll have to prove the doubters wrong.

To say that the 2025 Kansas City Chiefs were disappointing wouldn't even tell half of the story. It seemed that every single thing that could've gone wrong went wrong, from Xavier Worthy getting hurt by some friendly fire in Week 1 to Patrick Mahomes tearing his ACL late in the season.

The Chiefs' offense continued its regression in the post-Eric Bieniemy era, the defense wasn't as efficient as in the Super Bowl years, and even special teams were a concern, with Harrison Butker missing routine kicks.

Nevertheless, as much as the Chiefs may have struggled last season, they're still the Chiefs. That's why watching them ranked No. 15 in FanSided's post-draft power rankings might be a huge gut punch to the fans.

The Kansas City Chiefs have to prove that they still got it

To be fair, FanSided had the Chiefs at No. 17 before the 2026 NFL Draft, so there may be something to be said for the talent added from the rookie class. That makes perfect sense, given that they landed at least two players who can contribute from day one in Mansoor Delane and R Mason Thomas.

There are more than enough valid reasons to be worried about this team. Even if Patrick Mahomes is ready to take the field for the season opener -- which is a big 'if' -- he might be limited and not as mobile. Also, moving on from Jawaan Taylor was a no-brainer move, but they haven't done anything to replace him.

Also, while bringing back Eric Bieniemy and finally landing a starting-caliber running back like Kenneth Walker III should work wonders for the offense, the wide receiver corps is still underwhelming. Rashee Rice might not be healthy or eligible to play, Worthy has yet to take a leap, and they don't have another big-play option alongside Tyquan Thornton.

However, as we've already established, this is still the Kansas City Chiefs. This team has kept the rest of the league in a chokehold for the best part of the past decade, and they still have arguably the most talented quarterback in the game, not to mention the greatest offensive play-caller of all time calling the shots.

Granted, that doesn't mean they can just rest on their laurels and hope to out-talent everybody else because they have Patrick Mahomes. If anything, general manager Brett Veach must do a better job of giving him the weapons he needs to put him in a position to succeed.

That said, this is still the same team that won back-to-back Super Bowls and was just one win away from the third in a row. As much as the rest of the league might be praying for their downfall, this team should still be considered a force to be reckoned with every season, especially now that they'll face a third-place schedule.
