The Kansas City Chiefs have a list of upgrades to make this offseason after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl 59.
The Chiefs are already one of the NFL's best teams, however, their wide receiver room is one area that must be bolstered in the coming months. While Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are two of the league's best up-and-coming playmakers, Kansas City's WR depth beyond the dynamic duo is alarming.
Fortunately, the offseason offers the Chiefs different paths they can traverse to address their wideout needs. For example, one NFC franchise might be looking to trade a receiver who could easily become one of Patrick Mahomes' top weapons.
Chiefs Land Saints WR Chris Olave in Projected Trade
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave's name has been popping up in trade rumors this offseason. The Saints are currently in salary cap hell, and with Olave's fifth-year option looming and a massive extension right around the corner, now might be the perfect time for a divorce.
It isn't hard to fantasize about the damage a potential Olave-Mahomes connection could do. The former Ohio State Buckeye has shown a fair amount of potential to begin his career, having racked up 2,565 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 191 catches across 39 appearances since being drafted 11th overall by the Saints in 2022.
But as impressive as Olave can be on the gridiron, he's in dire need of a fresh start after concussions limited him to eight appearances in 2024. Having said that, he did tell The New Orleans Advocate's Rashad Milligan earlier this month that he's feeling "100%" and doesn't "really have (concussion-like) symptoms."
Assuming that Olave is in the clear, the Chiefs would be silly not to pursue the gifted pass-catcher. His combination of precise route-running and reliable hands could make him the perfect outside threat to elevate Kansas City's aerial attack. In fact, a healthy Olave would likely be a better addition than any wideout management could find in the draft or free agency this offseason.
So, what would general manager Brett Veach have to pay to pry Olave from New Orleans?
Taking Olave's injury history and need for a contract extension into account, the Chiefs can likely land him for a third-round pick. The Saints don't have much leverage — especially with their cap situation — and would likely be content with taking either of the Chiefs' 2025 third-rounders, most likely No. 95.
The Chiefs' Super Bowl window won't remain open if they keep surrounding Mahomes with one-year receivers. Acquiring Olave would give the franchise quarterback and fans another long-term weapon to be impressed by for years to come.
