Even though the 2025 NFL draft is over, the excitement is still continuing amid the fallout. After all, there are plenty of talented rookies who went undrafted over the weekend, leaving all 32 franchises scrambling to sign the best of the bunch.
The Kansas City Chiefs left Lambeau Field with a solid crop of rookies, but that didn't stop them from targeting the undrafted free agent market, too. Promising first-year players like USC punter Eddie Czaplicki and Clemson tight end Jake Briningstool have been signed so far, making it interesting to see if any UDFAs can eventually work their way into head coach Andy Reid's lineup.
The Chiefs have also dedicated some time to inviting more UDFA to tryouts, with rookie minicamps beginning within the next two weeks. The tryout invitees include one up-and-coming pass rusher who might give Kansas City something to think about in the offseason's next phase.
Chiefs Invite Pitt DE Nate Matlack to Rookie Minicamp Tryout
On Monday, TopSpeed Sports Performance's Joseph Potts reported that Matlack has been invited to the Chiefs' upcoming rookie minicamp, as well as to the Pittsburgh Steelers' session.
Interestingly enough, Potts added that Matlack's invitation was confirmed by the former Panthers defender himself.

Matlack is a 6-foot-5, 250-pound disruptor who spent three seasons with the Kansas State Wildcats before transferring to the Pittsburgh Panthers for the 2024 campaign. The change in scenery paid off for the Olathe, KS native, finishing his final collegiate campaign with career highs in solo tackles (18), sacks (5.0), and defended passes (3) while also forcing a fumble.
Matlack's lone season in a Pitt jersey also saw his best pass-rushing performance to date. He played to a personal-best 79.3 Pro Football Focus pass rush grade while tallying 24 hurries, eight quarterback hits, and his quintet of sacks. His best outing came when he recorded four pressures and a 90.5 pass rush grade during Pitts' 48-46 overtime loss to Toledo in the GameAbove Sports Bowl.
PFF ranked the Chiefs as having the league's eighth-best pass rush last season. It certainly looks like Matlack has the potential to help Kansas City maintain that reputation should he accept the camp invite. His disruptive ways combined with local connections would likely make him an immediate fan favorite.
Chiefs fans won't have to wait long to see Matlack and any other exciting rookies in action. All 32 NFL rookie minicamps will take place within the first two weeks of May, meaning it's only a matter of time before Kansas City announces its dates.
