While the Chiefs are completely focused on preparing for the playoffs in hopes of securing a three-peat, other teams have begun interviewing important members of the organization for potential jobs.

Beloved defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has been requested for two interviews already. He's been clear about his desire to earn another head coaching role at some point, and the veteran coordinator certainly has the support of his players and staff.

After defensive back Joshua Williams sang Spagnuolo's praises, sixth-year defensive backs coach Dave Merritt joined the choir and shared his own experience.

Chiefs DBs Coach Dave Merritt Supports Steve Spagnuolo's Head Coaching Efforts

Posting on X (formerly known as Twitter), Merritt said that Spagnuolo "will create a winning culture unlike no other if he's selected as a HC!" He noted he's witnessed Spagnuolo's approach. Having spent 28 years in the league as both a player and coach, Merritt is plenty qualified to share his opinion.

There's been an interesting uptick in support for Spagnuolo and greater discussion about him possibly landing one of these jobs than in previous years. The Chiefs once again have one of the NFL's best defenses and Spagnuolo is widely recognized as the best in his field, so why wouldn't a team be interested in having him lead the franchise?

Spagnuolo's first head coaching stint from 2009 to 2011 with the Rams didn't go well. He compiled a 10-38 record though he has since won four Super Bowls, routinely thwarting opposing offenses with spectacular playoff game plans. If you want a proven winner and culture-setter who frustrates other teams, you could do far worse than the man who inspired the "In Spags We Trust" shirts.

It would be painful to watch Spagnuolo leave but he deserves to chase whatever opportunities he dreams of. Should the Chiefs finish the job and win another Super Bowl, expect Spagnuolo to think long and hard about leaving Kansas City for good.
