7 Most Disappointing Chiefs Despite 5-0 Start

Even though the Kansas City Chiefs are 5-0, the 2024 season has been far from perfect. These seven players have been the most disappointing Chiefs through five games.

2. Carson Steele, RB

When No. 1 running back Isiah Pacheco ended up on the injured reserve with a leg injury, Chiefs fans were hoping that Carson Steele could take advantage of the situation. The 2024 undrafted rookie showed potential during the preseason as he rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.

Unfortunately, Steele hasn't been able to take advantage of the Chiefs' depleted backfield. The ex-UCLA runner has turned 33 carries into 117 yards (3.5 per attempt) while only catching 2-of-5 (40%) targets for two receiving yards. He's also fumbled the ball in three of his last four games, signaling that he just might not be cut out to be an NFL RB.

Steele's struggles also forced the Chiefs to reunite with free agent RB Kareem Hunt. Even though Hunt's best days are likely behind him, the veteran rusher has already outperformed Steele with 171 rushing yards and a TD on 41 carries across two outings.

Even though Steele is still seeing snaps, he's likely playing on borrowed time. Clyde Edwards-Helaire should be making his 2024 debut soon and his pending return could be enough to knock Steele completely off the depth chart.
