3. Charles Omenihu, DE
The Chiefs thought they were getting quite the difference-maker on their hands when they signed veteran pass rusher Charles Omenihu to a two-year, $16 million contract in 2023. The former Big 12 defensive lineman was coming off a strong run with the San Francisco 49ers and the hope was that he could take his game to the next level in Kansas City.
Omenihu's tenure immediately started on the wrong foot as he was suspended for the first six games of the 2023 campaign due to his violating the league's personal conduct policy. Even though he eventually returned to the mix in October and won a Super Bowl ring, he didn't participate in the postseason finale because he tore his ACL in the AFC Championship Game.
Omenihu rehabbed his knee throughout the offseason and well into the 2024 campaign before making his return in Week 13. Unfortunately, he failed to make the most of his new lease on life, finishing the season with four solo tackles and a sack in six regular-season appearances before tallying six more solo efforts and another sack in the playoffs.
The former Texas Longhorn's low point of the year actually came in the Super Bowl, where he finished with a season-low 42.0 PFF defense grade.
Even though he can likely be re-signed at a discount, Omenihu likely won't be back next year. The combination of his injury history and declining play is too much to ignore, and the Chiefs are better off replacing him with a new face.
