KC Chiefs determined to improve defense in 2021 NFL Mock Draft
KC Chiefs Mock Draft 3.0
Round 3: Pick 94 – Chaz Surratt, LB (North Carolina)
The Chiefs stick with drafting defensive players, adding Chaz Surratt in the third round. Linebacker is one of the positions in the biggest need of an upgrade and Surratt would definitely be an upgrade at the position.
Willie Gay showed promise near the back half of the 2020 season, but unfortunately, he was injured in the Week 17 finale, meaning he was unavailable for the playoffs. Anthony Hitchens played better in 2020, but the Chiefs still didn’t get much out of their linebackers group as a whole.
Surratt actually played quarterback during his first two years at North Carolina and then transitioned to linebacker after his sophomore season. As a linebacker, Surratt came into his own, totaling 12.5 sacks over two seasons while also becoming a tackling machine with 206 during that time.
The Chiefs need tacklers and there might not be a better option in the draft than Surratt. Plus, not that we should hope this ever happens, but if the Chiefs are ever in a situation like the Broncos this past year where they need a quarterback in a pinch, Surratt could be that guy.
