KC Chiefs Mock Draft 3.0

Round 4: Pick 136 – Robert Hainsey, OT (Notre Dame)

136. player. 819. . Offensive Tackle. Fighting Irish . Robert Hainsey

With their first pick for the offensive side of the ball, Kansas City picks up Robert Hainsey out of Notre Dame. Ideally, the Chiefs draft an offensive tackle in the first or second round, especially now that Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz have been released.

Hainsey spent his college career at right tackle, which is now a position of need for the Chiefs with Schwartz no longer with the team. Lucas Niang was a promising third-round pick in last year’s draft and played right tackle at TCU, so he’s probably the man for the job there. Hainsey can back him up and be a swing option for the line.

Hainsey probably isn’t going to be ready to start right out of the gate. Rolling with Niang — unless the Chiefs opt to put him at left tackle instead — is the best solution for right tackle, but re-signing Remmers is another idea. Hainsey looks to be a good backup option though and as we saw with Nick Allegretti, a lot can be learned from sitting on the bench for a year.

Drafting offensive linemen is something the Chiefs need to do in this year’s draft and they need to do all they can to ensure that they’re well-covered in that department.
