Chiefs news revolves around the Kansas City Chiefs extending both Andy Reid and Brett Veach.

Kansas City Chiefs fans remember what it was like not having a good head coach or general manager. That’s why when the news of Andy Reid‘s and Brett Veach’s extensions were announced, Chiefs Kingdom was thrilled.

The extensions come during the Chiefs’ bye week and right before the team is about to face the Raiders for the second time this season. Each extension is for five years and there shouldn’t be a single Chiefs fan upset with these two getting extended.

The Chiefs were not a good franchise before Reid took over. They would maybe make the playoffs every three or four years, but would then sink back into irrelevancy. Since Reid has taken over, the Chiefs have had a winning record every year and only missed the playoffs once (2014 when they went 9-7 and narrowly missed out on the postseason).

While then-general manager John Dorsey was good at finding talent both in the draft and free agency, he was terrible at the financial aspect of things. He gave out ludicrous deals to Eric Berry and Justin Houston and both ended up going poorly, as expected.

When Veach was brought in, the financial issues weren’t a problem anymore. He found ways to pay both Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones this offseason and has been able to sign guys like Tyrann Mathieu, Sammy Watkins, and Bashaud Breeland during his time as the GM. He’s done a really nice job as general manager.

These two getting extended means the Chiefs’ window of contention will continue to stay open. Good coaching goes a long way in the NFL and having a good general manager only helps a team’s chances of contending. The Chiefs are set up to win for a very long time thanks to these two gentlemen.

As Sweeney noted in his article, news of these potential extensions broke in September, but now it’s official — Both Reid and Veach will be members of the Chiefs organization through 2025. What a long way this organization has come, huh?
