Chiefs news is obviously all about how Patrick Mahomes landed a ten-year deal worth up to over $500 million. The Kansas City Chiefs will be a Super Bowl contender every year as long as he’s their quarterback.

We all knew that Patrick Mahomes was going to get an extension sooner or later, but no one saw a ten-year deal in the works. That’s exactly what happened, however, and now the Kansas City Chiefs have their quarterback for the next decade.

The final contract that Mahomes inked was for $503 million with $477 in guaranteed money. This keeps him in Kansas City until the 2031 season and by then, Mahomes will be 35 years old, so this guarantees the Chiefs to have him while he’s in his prime.

These days, quarterbacks tend to play well into their 40s, so there’s a good chance that even when this deal is set to expire, that Mahomes gets another hefty contract. That’s easy to say now, of course, but we have no idea how things will play out over the next decade.

It’d be tough to find a Chiefs fan who is against this contract. Before Mahomes, the Chiefs weren’t going anywhere even with Andy Reid at the helm. They’d make the playoffs, but be one and done; That hasn’t been the case with Mahomes.

Since he took over, the Chiefs have gone to two AFC Championship Games and made it to the Super Bowl once, winning it in comeback fashion. He deserves any amount of money he wants and the Chiefs would be idiots not to give it to him.

"For decades, the Kansas City Chiefs were in the latter conversation. They went from 1988 to Week 17 of the 2017 season without winning a game started by a quarterback they drafted."

At the end of the day, we don’t know how this contract is going to be looked at in the future. All we can do right now is be thankful that Patrick Mahomes will be the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs for the next decade.

When a team has their quarterback of the future – and when that quarterback plays to the level that Mahomes does – keeping him happy is the key, and the Chiefs just made Patrick Mahomes very happy.
