at Miami Dolphins in Week 14 (Dec. 13)

Prior to the 2020 season, I listed some potential surprise games that the Chiefs could lose. On that list was the Miami Dolphins simply because they were a very sneaky team last year. The Chiefs benefitted from this last year, as the Dolphins went into Foxboro in Week 17 and took down the Patriots, which handed Kansas City the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

Because of that, the Chiefs got a first round bye and went on to host the AFC Championship Game. They then went on to win the Super Bowl, which was played in Miami. The Chiefs will be returning to Miami for the first time since their Super Bowl win, but this time it’s for a regular season game against the Dolphins.

Miami isn’t a better team than the Chiefs and they’re not even close. But, as we’ve seen from the Dolphins this year and even last year, they’re capable of stealing a few games from teams who are better than them. We just saw them drop 43 points on the defending NFC Champion 49ers while also playing close games against the Bills and the Seahawks.

In other words, the Dolphins aren’t a team to sleep on. They’re 3-3 right now and in second place in the AFC East. While they might be a totally different team in December and completely out of playoff contention, right now they look to be one of those teams who could trip up the Chiefs late in the season.

Strangely, the Dolphins benched Ryan Fitzpatrick, who was playing good football and decided to let Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 5 overall pick, take over as the starter. This could make this game easier or more difficult, we simply don’t know which is the case yet since we only saw Tua complete two passes in his NFL debut.
