Chiefs News: ESPN releases AFC West All-Decade team
Chiefs news consists of how ESPN released their AFC West All-Decade team and several members of the Kansas City Chiefs made appearances.
The 2010s started off on an interesting note for the Kansas City Chiefs, but it was still the Broncos’ division to lose up through the 2015 season. That 2015 season is when the tide started to turn in the AFC West.
Yes, the Broncos went on to win the Super Bowl that season behind a dominant defensive effort, but the Chiefs finished the regular season with the same record and made a push for the division title. The 2016 season began the Chiefs’ run of dominance in the division and the AFC West has belonged to them ever since.
ESPN looked at all factors when compiling their list for AFC West All-Decade team. Patrick Mahomes was named the Kansas City Chiefs’ player of the decade (shocking) while Andy Reid won the AFC West coach of the decade (also shocking).

As far as the team ESPN put together, four Chiefs (two being current Chiefs) made the offensive team with Jamaal Charles at running back, Rodney Hudson at center, Mitchell Schwartz at right tackle, and Travis Kelce at tight end.
On defense, four Chiefs also made the list, but only one of them is currently on the team. Those players are Chris Jones at defensive tackle, Justin Houston at linebacker, Derrick Johnson at linebacker, and Eric Berry at safety.
The Chiefs also had three players make it on the special teams portion in Knile Davis (kick returner), Tyreek Hill (punt returner), and Dustin Colquitt (punter).

The 2010s was a very up and down decade for the Kansas City Chiefs, but things really started trending upwards when Andy Reid took over in 2013. Even with their 2-14 record in 2012, the team still had six players make it to the Pro Bowl, which showed they were still talented.
Reid helped the organization become relevant on a yearly basis, but it wasn’t until they drafted Patrick Mahomes that the big time wins really started to come, including a Super Bowl title this past season.
Several Chiefs – past or present – making it onto the AFC West All-Decade list wasn’t shocking because of how dominant they’ve been recently. Jamaal Charles was a part of some of those bad teams though and that just goes to show how great he was for this team.
