KC Chiefs: Three prospects to target on Day 2 of 2020 NFL Draft
By Chris Clark
The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft is in the books. A lot of great names came off the board, but there’s still a lot left heading into the second round. Who might the KC Chiefs target on Day 2?
Kansas City Chiefs fans had to wait until the last pick in the first round of this year’s draft to see who the defending Super Bowl champs would select. In what may have been a shock to some, they chose LSU running back, Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
In what appears to be a draft class deep with talent, Kansas City can add another immediate contributor even late in round two. Let’s take a look at who might be available when they pick again.
Raekwon Davis
Alabama’s Raekwon Davis could get selected as early as the second round, with the biggest question being when that’ll happen. With the uncertainty of Chris Jones‘ contract and his future with the team, Davis could fill Jones’ spot on the roster if he ends up elsewhere.
The two players are similar in size and playing styles, so drafting a potential replacement here would make sense. There’s also the fact that the Chiefs had a formal interview with Davis at the combine.
Thankfully, Davis does fall a little further down the list of available prospects, which would help the Chiefs if they stay put at the 63rd pick. It’s also not uncommon for general manager Brett Veach to act aggressively and move up to get a player he likes.
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out, with the Chiefs not having as much draft ammo this year. Only having five total picks is a bit of hindrance in having what it takes to move up much.

With a fast-striking offense like Kansas City’s, the defense can often be on the field more during a game than desired. For that reason, having Davis rotating along the defensive line would be a great benefit to this defense.
Just imagine if the Chiefs get a long-term deal done with Chris Jones. Having both Jones and Davis on that defensive line at the same time would wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
Robert Hunt
If the Chiefs want to protect their franchise quarterback, investing in the offensive line needs to be a priority. Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher do a great job of holding down the tackle position, but the interior offensive line could use some help.
With Super Bowl starter Stefen Wisniewski leaving for Pittsburgh after the season, hopefully the Chiefs will put a premium on replacing him. That replacement could be Louisiana-Lafayette’s, Robert Hunt.
Because Andy Reid has an affinity for moving a big offensive tackle to the guard position, Hunt’s 6’5″, 323-pound build makes him an ideal candidate. He’s a bit raw but has the potential to be a starter within the first couple of seasons.
Having played both guard and tackle, Hunt has the versatility that is desired along Kanas City’s offensive line. He also plays with a bit of a mean streak, which would be good for intimidating and wearing down defensive linemen.
Hunt is projected to be drafted in round two, which would seem to be a safe pick for the Chiefs. With an early run of offensive linemen in round one, the Chiefs may have to work to get him in round two.
Thankfully, the Chiefs return some talented young players along with their veterans on the offensive line and Hunt would be a great addition to that group. Chiefs Kingdom should be excited if Kansas City decides to bring him into the fold.
Malik Harrison
If Kansas City has any draft needs this year, it’d likely be at cornerback or linebacker. The next few years could see a lot of changeover at the linebacker spot. Anthony Hitchens hasn’t been phenomenal, but has been a solid player at the position.
Not being a bigtime gamechanger with a higher price tag, Hitchen could be a candidate for release before his contract expires in 2023. Reggie Ragland headed to Detroit in free agency and Damien Wilson is only under contract for 2020.
This means that Kansas City’s top Super Bowl linebackers could all be gone sooner than later. As they address the future of the position, Ohio State’s Malik Harrison would be a great choice. The 6’3″, 247-pound defender is a big, physical disrupter that reaps the benefits of being an athletic playmaker.
He may have limitations in the passing game but makes up for it as a good tackler in the run game. For this reason, Harrison could be the replacement and potential upgrade for the departed Ragland.
While Harrison is projected to be drafted in round three or four, he could be ripe for the picking with Kansas City picking so late in the second round. If they choose to make him a Chief, it’ll be exciting to see how defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo could highlight his strengths in the defense.
With a serviceable linebacking corps intact for 2020, the young prospect could essentially take a season to get adjusted to the pro level before becoming the eventual starter. It’ll be interesting to see if the Chiefs show interest in him towards the end of round two.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a gutsy selection at pick 32, but they still have a chance to set up a Super Bowl winning roster into a repeat champion depending on how this draft shakes up for them.
