KC Chiefs: Broncos team to watch heading into 2020 NFL Draft
The KC Chiefs have owned the AFC West over the last four seasons and while they are still the best of the West, the Denver Broncos are an intriguing team heading into the 2020 NFL Draft.
Winning the Super Bowl is awesome for a lot of reasons, but one of the low-key greatest reasons is because Kansas City Chiefs fans finally have the “scoreboard” advantage over the Denver Broncos, who last won the Super Bowl in the 2015 season. Broncos fans can no longer make the 50 years comments because the Chiefs are the champs.
Getting into the point of my article though, the Broncos are an interesting team this offseason. They started the 2019 season off on a rough note, but once rookie quarterback Drew Lock took over, they looked better (except for when they played the Chiefs – Lock did not look good in that game).
As a result, the Broncos could be a Wild Card contender in 2020, especially with the playoffs expanding and allowing an extra Wild Card team to participate. A lot of their success will hinge on how Lock does in his sophomore season and that can sometimes be a tricky season for quarterbacks, as we’ve seen several rookies peter off in year two after having high expectations (Baker Mayfield anyone?).

Along with Lock, however, the Broncos are armed with ten total draft picks, including the 15th overall draft choice. A lot of mocks have Denver going with speedster Henry Ruggs III out of Alabama with that selection and he’d be yet another weapon to pair with Courtland Sutton at the wide receiver spot.
Denver has four selections for the second day of the draft, giving them a chance to bolster their roster even more. Assuming they take Ruggs in the first round, the Broncos still need to upgrade along their offensive line and add a cornerback or two. These will be key additions they need to make if they want to compete with the Chiefs in 2020 and beyond.
Yes, the Chiefs are obviously the team we’re most interested in because they’re our team, but the Broncos are the most intriguing team in the division in the 2020 NFL Draft. They have a lot of optimism this offseason and with a good draft, they could put themselves squarely in the hunt for a playoff spot in 2020.
Hopefully John Elway pulls a John Elway and has a bad draft and the Chiefs can continue to stay far ahead in the AFC West for many years to come.
