Kansas football isn’t used to having many players get drafted each year and 2020 will be no exception. One player will surely get drafted, another is a long shot.

Despite the 2019 season showing that the Kansas Jayhawks football prenijiogram might finally be heading in the right direction, the 2020 NFL Draft won’t show that, as only two members of the 2019 team are it for the Jayhawks as far as getting drafted goes.

A surefire draft pick for Kansas is Hakeem Adeniji, who spent most of his time in Lawrence at left tackle. The 6’4″, 304 pound offensive lineman has a lot to offer whatever NFL team takes a chance on him, but Lance Zierlein of NFL.com noted that Adeniji would likely hear his name called sooner if he could make the move to the interior offensive line.

Joe Marino of The Draft Network mentioned this in his evaluation of Adeniji too, stating that a move to guard would likely keep him in the NFL longer. Marino also said that Adeniji would be a project for whichever team drafted him.

More from KC Kingdom

"Adeniji is likely only a fit for zone blocking run schemes where he can take advantage of angles but his lateral movement skills are underwhelming. There is a reasonable skill set to develop within Adeniji, but he’s very much a project that may require a move inside to guard in order to stick in the NFL."

The other member of the Kansas football team to potentially get drafted at the end of April is Azur Kamara who was an edge rusher for the Jayhawks. Kamara might not be as much of a sure thing as Hakeem Adeniji is in the draft.

Kamara only had one full year as a starter under his belt, which could concern teams. He made the most of his 2019 season, however, totaling 51 tackles and four sacks for KU. Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network said he doesn’t think Kamara is anywhere close to playing on an NFL field and would be a developmental project for the drafting team.

"Kamara is a promising athlete who will be best if tasked with playing in space; but he’s a long ways away from seeing an NFL field and will need significant development in his hand usage, counters and play recognition skills."

The Draft Network has Hakeem Adeniji as their 136th best overall prospect and 15th best offensive tackle. Again, he’d benefit from agreeing to slide over to guard, but he is listed as a tackle in the draft due to playing left tackle at Kansas.

Azur Kamara has a much lower ranking on The Draft Network, sitting as their 398th best prospect, which isn’t good enough to get drafted. That doesn’t mean he won’t, as teams have their own rules when it comes to selecting players.

More than likely, only Adeniji will hear his name called come draft weekend, but Kamara could fit with the right team and surely will get picked up after the official draft ends. Hopefully both of these guys find homes in the NFL.
