KC Chiefs re-signing Demarcus Robinson to one-year deal smart move
The KC Chiefs signed a free agent on Saturday and it was their very own Demarcus Robinson, who they brought in on a one-year deal.
The Kansas City Chiefs had questions to answer this offseason at the wide receiver position and one question was answered with the re-signing of Demarcus Robinson, who is back for the 2020 season.
Earlier in the offseason, I discussed how I didn’t think the Chiefs should bring Robinson back, stating,
"If the Chiefs are smart this offseason, then they can’t fall into the trap of keeping Robinson around simply because he was a part of the Super Bowl winning team. That’s what turns good teams into bad teams real fast."
That part is true, but the article was written back when it seemed like Robinson would get a big time deal through free agency simply because he won a Super Bowl and caught passes from Patrick Mahomes. I was worried that the Chiefs would fall into that trap of re-signing Robinson for more than he was worth, but they managed to get him back to Kansas City on a one-year deal.

I’m totally fine with a one-year contract for Robinson because the wide receiver position is an important one for the Chiefs. If they don’t end up bringing back Sammy Watkins and had also lost Robinson, then that would have put them in a spot where they needed to spend one of their five draft picks on a wideout and also sign someone in free agency.
Now, even if Watkins is gone, the Chiefs either can draft someone or sign a veteran. They won’t necessarily need to do both though that still wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Robinson knows the Chiefs offense and despite his shortcomings, he has had big games and big moments for this team. We all remember his explosiveness in week two in the Black Hole against the Raiders and the hope is that he can limit the drops and blossom into a better receiver.
It’s important for the Kansas City Chiefs to keep their offense up to snuff. As long as Mahomes is the quarterback in KC, then offense will be what wins them games. Demarcus Robinson might not be a WR1 or WR2 option, but signing him to a one-year deal is a solid move for 2020.
What do you think of this move, Chiefs Kingdom? Are you okay with having Robinson back in 2020?
