Would the KC Chiefs draft a running back with the 32nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft? Bleacher Report’s most recent mock draft says yes, linking the Chiefs to Georgia’s D’Andre Swift with the final pick in the first round.

The mock draft, which was written by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, had the Kansas City Chiefs taking the second running back in the draft – D’Andre Swift out of Georgia. In case you were wondering, the first running back selected was J.K. Dobbins from Ohio State who went 26th overall to the Dolphins (via the Texans).

Swift spent three years at Georgia and rushed for 2,885 yards and  20 touchdowns while also hauling in over 650 yards with five receiving touchdowns. This past season saw the Bulldog running back carry the rock 196 times for 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns.

In 2018, he split time with both Elijah Holyfield and Nick Chubb and still rushed for over 1,000 yards and ten touchdowns. He got to carry most of the load this year and proved that he can stay healthy enough for an entire season, something that hadn’t been proven up until 2019.

While Swift is talented, the big question here is would the Chiefs actually spend their first round pick on a running back? They have several other needs that are more important and truth be told – Running back just isn’t a position that needs to be addressed on Day 1 of the draft anymore.

This year’s Super Bowl proved just that sentiment, as the Chiefs had Damien Williams as their starter (undrafted) while the 49ers rolled with Raheem Mostert (undrafted) throughout the playoffs. Teams can find high quality running backs in the later rounds of the draft or not in the draft at all.

Kansas City still has Williams one more year, they drafted Darwin Thompson in the sixth round last year, and they have Darrel Williams (another undrafted running back) on the depth chart as well. While the run game wasn’t great a season ago, taking one in the first round isn’t necessary. I’m all for taking the best available player at pick 32 or trading out of the first round to acquire more picks, as the Chiefs only have five at the moment.

What do you think, Chiefs Kingdom? Would you be okay with the Chiefs taking a running back at pick 32? More specifically – Would you be all right if they made D’Andre Swift a member of the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2020 season and beyond?
