KC Chiefs: What to expect from Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LIV
The KC Chiefs are representing the AFC in Super Bowl LIV and are slight favorites over the San Francisco 49ers. The reason they are slight favorites is because of Patrick Mahomes. What should fans expect from their quarterback?
Well, the big day has finally arrived, Chiefs Kingdom! For the first time in most of our lifetimes, the Kansas City Chiefs will be playing in the Super Bowl and it sure is exciting!
A lot of fans probably feel like this team will get back to this pinnacle again a lot over the next decade, but nothing is guaranteed in sports, even with Patrick Mahomes on the roster. With all of that being said, Mahomes is the reason the Chiefs are favored in this game and he’ll have to play a darn near perfect game on Sunday night to bring the Lombardi Trophy home to Kansas City.
It won’t be easy though, as the 49ers have one of the best defensive lines in the league and it helped get them to this point. Mahomes’ offensive line will have to be perfect in protecting him because if the Niners get four or more sacks on Mahomes and really disrupt him, they’ll probably win the game.

Mahomes hasn’t let a good defensive line really push him around much this season and recently it’s been because of how well the offensive line has played. The Titans sacked him twice in the AFC title game and we saw how effective he was in that game still.
The only time Mahomes was sacked four times in the regular season was back in week five against the Colts in what ended up being a loss. Even with it being a loss, the Chiefs still had a chance to win it late.
Yes, the 49ers defense is solid and they’ll make it tough on Showtime, but Mahomes is very tough to stop for all four quarters. He should be able to throw for AT LEAST 250 yards (if not 300) with multiple touchdowns and look for him to also gain some yards with his legs too, something we’ve seen him do a lot more over the past month (he’s led the team in rushing throughout the postseason).
Patrick Mahomes is the difference maker in this game – point blank. If he has a bad game, then the Chiefs are winning. If he has an out of this world game like we’ve seen in the Chiefs’ two playoff games so far, then the Kansas City Chiefs should be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy when it’s all said and done.
