KC Chiefs comeback win vs Texans won’t matter if they lose to Titans

We were all elated when the KC Chiefs, who were down 24-0 at one point, were able to turn things around and ultimately win the game 51-31. If they lose this week, however, that’s all for naught and the legacy of that game isn’t as big.

When it comes to the playoffs, Kansas City Chiefs fans are always going to a nervous mess. Decades of disappointment in the postseason have still haunted us as fans and that’s why sometimes it’s tough for us to truly believe in this team, even when we know they’re the better team.

Last week, when the Chiefs were down 24-0 to the Houston Texans, things didn’t look good. It looked like this team – who had been so talented and one of the NFL’s best in 2019 – would bow out early once again.

Instead, the Chiefs showed why this season’s team could be different. They did unreal things in that Divisional Round, being the first team ever to trail by 20+ points and then score 41 consecutive points. Typically when a team makes a magical comeback, the game is still pretty close. It’s never a blowout on the other end.

As fun as that Chiefs/Texans game was to witness, if the Kansas City Chiefs lose to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in the AFC Championship Game, does the win over the Texans still have the same type of buzz surrounding it?

Sure, it’d still go in the record books as a game where crazy things were accomplished, but it won’t have the same effect on Chiefs fans if they make an early exit this weekend.

Instead of celebrating the greatest game to ever be played at Arrowhead Stadium, we’ll all be bummed about this team bowing out early and not making it to the Super Bowl. It’d be a failed season for this team, considering how good they are and the talent that they have from top to bottom.

Games like the one against Houston are the games that teams win when its their year. If they lose to Tennessee, then that game loses the hype it once had and we’ll all still talk about it, but it won’t have nearly the same impact it would if this team were to advance to a Super Bowl.

If the Chiefs went through all of that only to get knocked out before the Super Bowl, it’ll be a huge disappointment. It’d be like if the Kansas City Royals accomplished what they did in the 2014 Wild Card Game and then ended up getting swept by the Angels in the next round. It’d have been fun, but ultimately, we wouldn’t really be talking about it as much and it wouldn’t have the same impact that it has to this day.

No the Royals didn’t win it all that year, but they made it all the way to Game 7 of the World Series in 2014. Then the next year, they won it all, so the Wild Card Game started that amazing run to the top.

If the KC Chiefs fail to capitalize on this momentum, then their best chance of getting to and winning a Super Bowl will slip away and who knows when they’ll get this chance again. They’ll once again be a team who failed to get the important victories and that can’t happen – Not after a win like last week.

Hopefully the Chiefs have another crazy win (or just a straight blowout win would work too) over the Titans this weekend because it’d be a shame if what happened in the Divisional Round wasn’t as special moving forward. It was the best and biggest win to ever occur at Arrowhead Stadium and hopefully in the future we don’t have to say “Yeah, but” after discussing its greatness.
