KC Chiefs: Five keys to victory vs Titans in AFC Championship Game
By Gage Stagner
Number 1 – Leave the past in the past
There’s no boogeyman to go through this year on the road to the Super Bowl, but old habits die hard. Even if there’s no New England-sized boulder in the way, it was evident that the narrative surrounding the Chiefs was stitched into the minds of everyone last week.

Seasons in Kansas City end in disappointment. They always have.
Whether you were at home watching, in the crowd, or on the field, the playoff pressure seemed to be even bigger after New England was sent packing. Starting with the Miami Dolphins ensuring a Kansas City first-round bye in week 17, the script flipped.
No one is used to luck being on the side of the Chiefs and that scared everyone involved. Last week was terrifying, expected, infuriating, and incomprehensible, all at the same time. At first, the moment was too big and the opportunity was too easy.
“We really won’t have to play Lamar Jackson or Tom Brady in the AFC Championship? This has to be the year or there will never be one.”
Those two sentences were either on the minds or on the lips of every old and new Chiefs fan heading into the game. The players knew the circumstances, Andy Reid knew it, but the moment where Kansas City folds under pressure came and went.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce heard your fears and reasonable doubts and obliterated them before you could turn off the game. The vibe and feeling of this is reminiscent of the 2015 Kansas City Royals World Series team. There’s unfinished business to take care of after last year’s crushing loss and all are aware.
They invite the added pressure of what history says and in the words of Patrick Mahomes, “Let’s do something special.”
