NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (THREE SEED) – BILL BELICHICK

Everyone can sit here and say that the Patriots are done, but I’m still weary of it. No, Tom Brady isn’t the same player he was just a year ago, but Bill Belichick knows how to win in the postseason and that’s troubling for Chiefs fans.

This will be the likely match-up in the Divisional Round: Chiefs vs Patriots at Arrowhead in a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship Game. I remember several months ago when listening to the FanSided Stacking the Box podcast, that former Chiefs offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz said he wouldn’t be shocked if Belichick went into games like the one against the Chiefs and Ravens and tried different things to see if they could potentially work in a playoff setting.

By doing this, Belichick didn’t necessarily plan to win per say, but he could strategize a little more and would know what game plan to have should he see either of these teams again in the playoffs. It’s not Touchdown Tom or the “vaunted” Patriots defense that scares me, it’s the mastermind himself Bill Belichick that would worry me in the Divisional Round.

BALTIMORE RAVENS (ONE SEED) – OFFENSIVE TEMPO

The Baltimore Ravens aren’t one of the best teams in the league for no reason. One of the scariest aspects to their offensive dominance this year has been their tempo on offense. Time and time again, we’ll see the Ravens take their time, make smart plays, and not have a care in the world that they’re not firing down the field on every play.

The Chiefs haven’t done well against teams like this. Yes, they beat Baltimore in week three, but these are two very different teams now. If the Ravens were to execute a seven minute drive and then the Chiefs continued with their conservative weird play calling that Reid likes to do so much and have to punt it back, Baltimore could easily put the game out of reach with another long drive.

KC can’t host the Titans next weekend, but the Patriots, Texans, and Bills are all fair game. More than likely, they’ll be playing the Patriots and while I think the Chiefs would win that game, fans would be fools to rule out Belichick from working his evil Thanos-like powers in that one.

Hopefully the Chiefs finally figure out how to rid the NFL of evil and topple the Patriots, but maybe that won’t even be the match-up we’re looking at. We’ll know for sure come Saturday night.
