Todd McShay released his first 2020 NFL Mock Draft and has the KC Chiefs drafting LSU cornerback Kristian Fulton with the 28th overall pick.

It’s never too early to get excited about mock drafts, even with the Kansas City Chiefs playing as well as they are right now. That being said, Todd McShay released his first mock draft for the 2020 NFL Draft and has the Chiefs grabbing a very talented corner in Kristian Fulton, who dons the LSU purple and yellow.

Fulton has been phenomenal this year for the top ranked team in the country, 31 total tackles, 12 defended passes, and one interception through 13 games. The LSU corner has covered the best of the best in the SEC and been about as good as one could be against those players.

The tweet below displays how good Fulton has been this season and why this would be a good selection by the Kansas City Chiefs, should they go this route.

My big thing here is: Why would the Chiefs be grabbing a corner with their first round pick? They might not have the biggest names at cornerback, but Charvarius Ward has really turned the corner this year and sixth round rookie Rashad Fenton has been a nice surprise as well. The secondary has played well over the last month of the season and is no longer a weakness for this team.

The Chiefs should definitely add help at cornerback in the draft, but there are bigger needs to be addressed, especially in the first round. A run stopping linebacker would be nice to have in Kansas City, as would a running back or tight end. Even a wide receiver would be a good first round choice given the lack of production behind Tyreek Hill.

If this were to be the route the Chiefs went, it’d be fine, but it feels like for once, cornerback isn’t the biggest need out there for this team. With that in mind, however, Kendall Fuller, Bashaud Breeland, and Morris Claiborne are all set to be free agents next year, and that could be why the Chiefs are forced to take a corner this high in the draft.

Don’t get me wrong; Kristian Fulton would be a wonderful addition to the KC Chiefs secondary and I’d be happy to have him in Chiefs red. But, if I’m being entirely honest, cornerback just isn’t as much of a weakness as it was this time last year, and that’s a good thing.

What do you think of this pick, Chiefs Kingdom?
