KC Chiefs add run stopper in recent 2020 NFL Mock Draft
The KC Chiefs have several needs this offseason, but adding someone who can help stop the run would be ideal. That’s where a recent mock draft has the Chiefs looking to upgrade in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports released his mock recent mock draft for the 2020 NFL Draft and had the Kansas City Chiefs selecting South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw with the 23rd overall pick.
Kinlaw, for those of you who aren’t familiar with the name, is skilled in several different areas. Wilson notes that he’s solid at stopping the run and is good at getting to the quarterback, as evidenced by his six sacks through 11 games this season.
While the Chiefs defense has improved in the secondary this year, their run defense has been problematic. That’s not a new issue either, as the run D has struggled to stop anyone over the last half decade or so. We’ve seen it come back to bite them again and again over the years.

Adding Kinlaw would be an immediate upgrade in helping with stopping the run. He’s big and versatile and could be plugged in as a starter right off the bat.
Kinlaw could have probably entered the draft last year and been a fairly high draft pick, but returning to South Carolina for his senior season shows that he knew he had areas of his game to work on. He’s improved mightily too in those facets, which will now result in him hearing his name called in the first round.
There are other needs for the KC Chiefs in the 2020 draft, but stopping the run has been something they’ve struggled with for awhile, so why not spend the first round pick there? Positions like tight end and running back are important, yes, but neither is worthy of spending a first rounder on.
If the Chiefs did land Javon Kinlaw, they’d be getting a guy who can contribute right away and help in a spot that has plagued the organization for years. His ability to stop the run and get after the quarterback is hard to ignore and is why Kansas City legitimately being interested in drafting Kinlaw wouldn’t be surprising whatsoever.
What would you think if the Kansas City Chiefs selected Javon Kinlaw in the first round next April? Is there another position or player that you’d want to see them end up with?
