Mizzou football hits the road for their third straight game this weekend. They’ll play the sixth ranked Georgia Bulldogs in Athens at 6:00 this Saturday evening.

At one point, a lot of Missouri Tigers fans had this game against Georgia circled on their calendar. After losing to Wyoming in week one, however, the game didn’t seem as important because Mizzou had already suffered their first loss.

Then, the Tigers ripped off five straight wins and were ranked 22nd in the country heading into their game against the Vanderbilt Commodores, one of the worst teams in the SEC East. So naturally, Missouri lost that game and then followed up that headache of a loss by pouring salt on the wound, losing to Kentucky on the road as well.

Those back-to-back losses have Mizzou sitting at 5-3 now and their chances of winning the conference have basically vanished. Yes, there’s still a slight chance Missouri could pull out all the stops and win the conference, but it’s not likely.

This game against Georgia was a HUGE game a month ago, but with three losses on their record (Georgia only has one) and an 0-3 record away from Columbia, fans are no longer excited for the team’s battle with the Bulldogs.

Georgia is currently a double digit favorite over the Tigers, and MU is banged up, giving them very little chance of winning this game. The team we saw at the beginning of the season, the one that went on the five-game winning streak, inflated our hopes for what this team could realistically accomplish.

Now that we’ve seen Mizzou come back down to earth, this weekend’s game is just another game on the schedule and is likely the fourth loss the Tigers will suffer in 2019. They’d have an 0-4 road record and would also still have a game against Florida remaining.

Hopefully MU puts up a fight and doesn’t just lie down and surrender like we’ve seen them do against Georgia in the past, but a hungry Bulldog team against a banged up and beat down Tiger squad doesn’t exactly bode a lot of confidence for Mizzou football fans.

Perhaps the game will end up being closer, but it’s unlikely that the game lives up to what many of us were hoping it could be at the beginning of the season. That’s how quickly a season can change in college football.

At the very least, Missouri should be able to squeak at at least one more win, become bowl eligible, and get to play in a game at the end of the season. That’s assuming their bowl ban doesn’t keep them out of participating.
