The KC Chiefs’ last second win proved crucial, as the other three AFC West teams ended up winning in the later window of games.

Let’s take a look at the AFC West standings after nine weeks.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (6-3)
  2. Oakland Raiders (4-4)
  3. Los Angeles Chargers (4-5)
  4. Denver Broncos (3-6)

While no one is really in striking distance, all three teams continue to stay afloat in the AFC West. It once looked like this was the worst division in football, but after the AFC West went 4-0 against four decent teams, that can’t really be the case, can it?

More from KC Kingdom

The Raiders have surprised a lot of people, including myself, and are .500 after eight games. Considering how long they were away from home and the opponents they played during that time, this Oakland squad might prove a lot of people wrong. Had KC not won, all of a sudden the Raiders are only a game behind the Chiefs in the divisional standings.

Los Angeles’ win might have been more impressive than KC’s, as a lot of people left the Chargers for dead after their putrid start. They “hosted” the Packers, a very good team in the NFC, and dominated them from start to finish. Green Bay couldn’t do anything offensively in that game. Great win for the Chargers, who are starting to show signs of life in the AFC.

The Broncos won with a no name quarterback and that was another impressive win. Denver is probably out of any type of playoff discussion, but they’re not completely dead in the water just yet.

Kansas City had to win on Sunday and they did just that against a great team who they didn’t quite match up well against. Harrison Butker won it for the Chiefs, but this was undoubtedly an excellent team effort.

We’ll only have one AFC West team playing this Sunday and it’ll be our fearless Chiefs, who take on the Titans in Nashville. The Raiders and Chargers play on Thursday night while the Broncos are on their bye week. So, at least one team will win this weekend while one will lose (unless a tie happens, of course).

The AFC West is getting interesting!
